We want to #ReduceUnnecessaryPackaging

There are more and more people realise the importance of reducing unnecessary packaging. I suppose more than half consumers buy products with ‘beautiful’, ‘pleasant’ and ‘sturdy’ packaging. Although it makes you feel the products are secured and advanced, the earth SUFFERS for that. And in the end, you will pay for the price.

In Facebook (FB), there is a trend shows that people concern about the problem of over-pack products. The sellers tend to beautify the products so that consumers willing to and interested to purchase them. When the sellers do so, the consumers have a misunderstanding towards the nature of selling products. They take this situation for granted and expect all products should be packed nicely. If not, they will not buy. Over time, this situation becomes a circulation.

The over-packed products will increase the amount of rubbish in world since there are only fewer people will keep the packaging materials, such as paper, plastic and polystyrene for other purpose. It is good to reuse the packaging waste instead of throwing into dustbin. However, it is more encouraged to reduce the unnecessary packaging.

@Amazon

A Facebook post shares that Amazon is playing big role in reducing unnecessary packaging. Due to the reason that Amazon is a big online seller, there are a lot of packaging process occurs in daily. This means that it might have possibility to over-pack. And yes, it is truth.

“The company is also notorious for sending unnecessary amounts of packing material with small and non-fragile items. While it is recommended to choose the ‘group items together’ shipping option, they are not always sent in one box.”

(written in Forcechange).

According to the Forcechange, there are three ways for Amazon to reduce unnecessary packaging:

  1. investing in eco-materials. For example, use biodegradable packing peanuts;
  2. reducing unnecessary fillers and packing material in non-fragile orders;
  3. making sure the grouping together items are in one order.
